Develop your own opinions by thinking for yourself.
A few weeks ago I was at Rira with some friends. While
waiting for a drink at the bar a bachelorette party came up next to us. Of
course a couple of the girls were very attractive and a buddy of mine went up
to one of them and tried to make conversation. Her friend steps in while
looking at my buddy and says “I have heard about you.” Consequently the conversation stopped and they left.
All to
often there are a large number of potential relationships, business deals, etc
that are never given the slightest chance to develop because of someones
reputation and hearsay First, a persons reputation should always be considered,
but I have a hard time letting a persons past and whether or not there reputation is just decide how I feel towards someone. I consider my self a grown
man fully capable of figuring things out, developing opinions, and making decisions on my own. It seems to me that I may be in the minority when it comes
to this.
We have
all played the telephone game when we were little I hope. The idea of course is
that the more people pass on a piece of info the more distorted the truth
becomes. Ex: He is a good basketball player. 9 people later the teacher asks
the last person in the chain to say what he heard. He then says “ He is a
player.” So close but yet soooo far away. This concept of the truth being
distorted by word of mouth hold true in the real world.
To make
this short, in my opinion, anyone that relies on someones reputation to form an
opinion is foolish and naive. Furthermore if you are ignorant enough to have
the base of your opinions made up of info from hearsay, you are probably still
a child and living with your parents. I am sure most of us have been judged
based on reputations or hearsay, I know I have A LOT. I am truly shocked by how
many people rely on others to help them think and figure things out for
themselves.
Accept advice but do yourself a favor and form your opinions
based on your own reasoning
